The Adrian McClaren Scholarship
The scholarship provides $500 to be used for NCTE convention expenses or tuition for advanced college credit.
Adrian McClaren meant a great deal to Memphis City Schools, the Tennessee Council of Teachers of English, and the classroom teachers across the state. He was part of our lives for such a long time; he always cared about teachers: he knew us well. He wanted teachers to be involved in their professional organizations, especially NCTE.
Now English teachers across the state have the opportunity to keep remembering Adrian’s good deeds and inspiration by supporting a scholarship fund in his memory. The Adrian McClaren Scholarship was launched in 1997 to recognize teacher achievement. The fund encourages attendance at national NCTE conventions or funds for tuition. TCTE is requesting that teachers make donations as a memorial for a departed teacher, as a gift or honor for a friend or colleague, or as a retirement gift. Simply complete the form and mail your donation in order to keep this fund active.
This scholarship fund is a way to honor, remember, thank, or celebrate teachers in Tennessee. The recipients will be carrying the legacy of Adrian McClaren on in their careers. You can be a part of this by contributing to or applying for the funding yourself. Adrian embodied what TCTE is all about: supporting teachers.
The NCTE Professional Development Award
This award recognizes one early career teacher from Tennessee annually. The recipient of this award, who must be a member of TCTE or must join upon acceptance, receives $500 to attend an NCTE convention (the recipient must be attending for the first time) and honored at the Affiliate Breakfast at that convention. The TCTE Board selects the recipient, though nominations from members are welcome.

The TCTE Professional Development Award
Also awarded to an early career teacher, this award includes all registration fees for one TCTE Annual Conference and recognition at the TCTE luncheon. The TCTE Board selects the recipients; nominations from members are welcome.
